San earrainn claistneachd seo, clàraichte ann an 2006, tha Iain Rothach a bha roimhe na dhròbhair a' cuimhneachadh air mar a bha cùmhnantan reic stuic air am maoineachadh sna h-Eileanan A-muigh. San ìomhaigh tha ropairean a bha roimhe ag obair do na ropairean stuic Reith agus MacAnndrais, cuide ri luchd-malairt cruidh.

'The sales in Uist took, took place twice a year - April and August/September. At the sale - the seller, he got a, he got a piece of paper just like what you have there, with the number of cattle he sold and the price that they made - and at the sale was the local, was the banker, maybe the banker for the whole of the South Uist, and that customer went down to the banker with his little bit paper and was handed the money in cash, or it was transferred to his account. And the banker would be there at the sale, even in those days, with thousands of pounds in money. Folk said, well there's no point anybody pinching it because they would never get off the island. The island's great security. And that's how it was handled in those days. The banker was at the sale and he paid the people then for their livestock. That's the way it was handled then. Everything was quite simple.'

Rugadh Iain Rothach air Tuathanas a' Chnuic Dhuibh, Baile Eòghainn, Siorrachd Rois ann an 1933. Bha athair 's a sheanair nan luchd-malairt cruidh agus chaorach, agus b' ann air sgàth a' cheangail a bh' aig athair ri na ropairean stuic, Reith agus MacAnndrais, a thòisich Iain, nach robh ach aois 11 no 12, a chuideachadh aig fèilltean stuic ann an Inbhir Pheofharain. Aig aois 18, thòisich Iain a dhol a-mach gu na h-Uibhistean na dhròbhair le Reith agus MacAnndrais a chuideachadh aig na fèilltean ràitheil. Aig an àm sin, cha robh goireasan ann airson làraidhean a chur air tìr air na h-eileanan agus mar sin dh'fheumadh an crodh a bhith air an iomain bho na fèilltean gu na bàtaichean, gus an tàinig na h-aiseagan ro-ro ann an 1965.

Ghabh Iain os làimh tuathanas an teaghlaich faisg air Baile Eòghainn ann an 1964 agus bha e ri tuathanachas an sin gu 1984. Lean e air a' cuideachadh aig na fèilltean roip ann an Inbhir Pheofharain nuair a bha feum air. O leig e seachad an tuathanas, tha Iain air fuireach ann an obair co-cheangailte ri tuathanachas, a' dràibheadh làraidhean, a' reic fras fheòir agus a' cuideachadh nàbaidhean agus teaghlach le stoc.
