Grant of Land by Henry Finlayson to Sir Thomas of Moray, Chaplain, 1478 (Back)

Sa chùmhnant-sgrìobhte seo leis a' cheann-là 8m den Fhaoilleach 1478, tha Eanraig Fionnlaghsdan a' buileachadh ròd talmhainn ann an Doimeasdail gu Sir Tòmas de Mhoireibh, Neach-caibeil na Ban-naoimh Catriona. Tha an talamh na laighe eadar thalamh Alasdair Fleming gu deas agus cuid Shandaidh Tàillear gu tuath.

Tha an dealbh a' sealltainn cùlaibh na sgrìobhainn.

'S e 'Doomsdale', an t-ainm air an talamh an seo, an sgìre mu thimcheall Sràid a' Chaisteil, ach tha e cuideachd a' dol mar 'Doomesdale', 'Dymisdail', Dymisdale, 'Domysdail', Dymisdall, 'Domisdaill', 'Dymingisdale', 'Dammysdaile, Demyngisdall, 'Damisdaille' agus 'Damysdale' ann an sgrìobhainnean eile.

Ann am foillseachadh bho 1875 aig Teàrlach Friseal-Mac anTòisich, 'Invernessiana: Contributions Toward a History of the Town and Parish of Inverness, from 1160 to 1599' (dg 153), tha an sgrìobhainn air eadar-theangachadh on Albannaich thùsail mar seo:

[Airson beag-fhaclair de chuid de na briathran air an cleachdadh ann an sgrìobhainnean bhuirgh Inbhir Nis, feuch an lean sibh an ceangal faisg air bonn na duilleige seo.]

'To all and sundry, to whose knowledge these present letters shall come; Greeting: Wit me, Henry Finlayson, one of the bailies of the burgh of Inverness, to have given heritable state and possession to a worshipful man, Sir Thomas of Moray, chaplain to St Catherine, of a rood of land lying in Doomsdale, on the east side of that same, betwixt the land of Alexander Fleming to the south, and the land of Sandy Tailzour to the north, the front extending to the king's gate to the west, and the tail to the old dyke to the east: The which rood of land, Gibby Reid, daughter of the late David Reid, resigned over purely and simply in my hands in favour of the foresaid Sir Thomas of Moray, in the name and on behalf of the holy virgin St Catherine, except that the infeftment be reserved to her mother, Maude Waus, for all the days of her life, and, after her decease, incoming perpetually to St Catherine, without any claim, challenge, or impediment, and this to all and sundry to whom it effeirs I make it known: In witness of the which I have put my seal to this letter of sasine, at the foresaid burgh of Inverness, the 8th day of the month of January, the year of God 1478 years, before these witnesses - Huchone Clerk, John Kanyt, Symonde, John Smyth, and Robert Scherer, messenger, with others sundry.'

Air cùlaibh na sgrìobhainn tha e sgrìobhte 'Ane rood of land in Doomesdale given purely by Gibie Reed and her heirs to St Catherine's chaplains and their successors,' agus an ceann-là 4mh Ògmhios 1478.
