A steamer leaves the railway pier at Kyle of Lochalsh and heads south east down the loch, with the mainland on the left and Skye on the right of the photograph. The steamer is probably the S.S. Claymore, built for David MacBrayne in 1881 and used on the Glasgow - Stornoway route carrying cargo and passengers. From 1918 she concentrated on Skye and the mainland cargo trade but after a short period from 1927 taking over from the Sheila after she foundered, the Claymore was finally scrapped in 1931
