Map of the Highlands of Scotland Denoting the Districts or Counties Inhabited by the Highland Clans. This map shows the districts and counties inhabited by the clans using colour to make the boundaries clear. The names of each clan should still be read, however, as each colour is not used exclusively for one clan.

The map is by W H Lizars and is taken from the book 'Sketches of the Character, Manner and Present State of the Highlanders of Scotland' by Colonel David Stewart

William Home Lizars (1788 - 1859) was originally a portrait painter who took over the family engraving business in Edinburgh and produced engravings for many books. When the American bird artist John James Audubon came to Britain in 1826, he originally employed Lizars to produce engravings of his works, although the majority of the work was done by Robert Havell & Son
