Sir Hector Munro of Foulis, 11th Baronet and 29th Baron of Foulis (1848-1935), was Chief of the Clan Munro. He was much respected as head of a family of which many members served in the Seaforth Highlanders. In 1871 Sir Hector joined the 96th Highland Rifle Militia, generally known as the 'Ross-shire Militia'. Under the Army Reforms of 1881 the Ross-shire Militia became the 3rd (Militia) Battalion Seaforth Highlanders. During the South African War Sir Hector Munro commanded the 3rd Seaforth in Cairo where the Battalion was as part of the Mediterranean Garrison, to release the 1st Battalion The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders for active service in South Africa. Sir Hector Munro was appointed Honorary Colonel of the 3rd Seaforth in 1908. His son and heir Captain Hector Munro MC, Younger of Foulis, was killed in action while serving with the 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders in 1918. After Sir Hector Munro's death in 1935, he was succeeded as Chief of Clan Munro by his grandson Captain Patrick Gascoigne Munro, who served as a Regular and Territorial Army officer in the Seaforth Highlanders. Sir Hector Munro was Lord Lieutenant for Ross and Cromarty, ADC to King Edward VII and King George V, and Convener and Patron of the Northern Meeting.
