The ruins of Caisteal Maol (Castle Moil or Moyle) sit on a rocky outcrop above Loch Alsh, overlooking the village of Kyleakin and the ferry crossing to the mainland. It was probably built as the home of the MacKinnons in the 15th century, but tradition has it that it was constructed in the 10th century by a Norwegian princess, Saucy Mary, married to a MacKinnon chief. She is reputed to have exacted tolls from passing ships by stretching a chain across the strait. This photograph was probably taken from the pier at Kyleakin
