A ferry crossed Loch Duich between Totaig and Dornie or Ardelve, saving the people of Letterfearn a long journey by road round the head of Loch Duich by Shiel Bridge. The ferry was still in use in the early part of the 20th century. An impressive broch, Caisteal Grugaig or Castle of the Witch, is situated on the headland close to the ferry
