This photograph is of David and Barbara Morrison, the paternal grandparents of the Highland journalist and editor, Willie Morrison. It was taken in the late 1930s at Sangobeg, Durness.

David and Barbara had nine of family, eight of whom survived, plus a daughter Barbara had earlier out of wedlock, to the son of a house in which she worked in Edinburgh as a maid. Barbara was also a Morrison, from Badcall, Scourie. She was very deaf as a result of a bout of scarlet fever in childhood. David was a crofter-fisherman and to supplement his living he also made shoes. David died, aged 82, in January 1941; Barbara in July 1952, aged 76
