This photograph was taken from Ardeonaig, on the south side of Loch Tay, looking towards Ben Lawers. Ben Lawers stands at 3982ft on the north side of Loch Tay. It is the tallest mountain in the southern Highlands but there was an attempt in 1878 to raise the height to over 4000ft. The remains of the 23ft cairn that was built can still be found on the summit. The area was designated as a National Nature Reserve in 1975.

The major archive of monochrome topographical views by James Valentine & Co. is held by the University of St Andrews Library. For further details of this collection please contact the Library, or refer to Special Collections at St Andrews
