This cottage is of a traditional Hebridean design with drystone walls and rounded corners. It has a thatched roof and a turf chimney. Earlier houses of this design would not have had a chimney and the smoke would have been allowed to escape through the thatch.

Grimsay is a small island between North Uist and Benbecula. The causeway, opened in 1960, linking North Uist and Benbecula crosses the north west tip of Grimsay. The island is approximately three miles long and a mile and a half wide and is circled by a single track road. At Kallin, on the south east tip, there is a harbour built in 1985. It is home to a growing shellfish industry
