This collection contains a selection of minutes from the archives of Dornoch Burgh Council between 1730-1919. The minutes contain some interesting insights into the development of the council and of Dornoch during this period. A more detailed overview of the contents of the collection can be found in the text accompanying page 1.

This is the first page of a Council minute dating from 9 September 1890.

The first item is the text of a notice that was placed in the 'Highland News' on 6 September 1890. The notice, dated 1 September 1890, relates to the registration of voters in the burgh and alerts residents that "a court will be held for Revising and Correcting the List of Voters, Claimants and Persons objected to" in the Burgh on 4 October.

This is followed by the minute of a joint meeting of the burgh's Standing and Public Health Committees, dated 9 September 1890.

The Committees first agree to rent out land to James White, a carpenter, on which to build a workshop, at a rate of five shillings a year. The Committees then agree to lease the town quarry for a year to Mr Murray and Mr Munro for the sum of eighteen shillings, and to lease shooting rights in the town to Mr Barrows for the sum of thirty shillings per year.

The minute also notes that a Requisiton has been received by the Council, signed by 12 residents, requiring the Council under the terms of the Public Health (Scotland) Act of 1867 to form part of the district into a Special Drainage and Water District.
