MURDER AND TEN GUINEAS REWARD
Whereas it is strongly suspected that THOMAS MACPHERSON, (commonly called Black Tom), lately residing at DOWNDUFF, on the river Findhorn, is the person who has committed the murder of ALEXANDER DAVIDSON, late Sawyer at DALTLICH, a reward of
TEN GUINEAS
Is thereby offered by the Sheriff of ELGINSHIRE for his apprehension; and all Sheriffs and Justices of the Peace of other Counties, are here by required to give their assistance in bringing the supposed murderer to Justice, who it is reported has taken refuge in the woods of BADENOCH. His description is as follows:
Age about 40 years, height about 5 feet 9 inches, complexion extremely dark, face round and full, thick lipped, slightly marked with small pox, with small particles of gunpowder spread over it, and most marked a little above the nose, caused by the accidental explosion at blowing rock; one of his hands also bears a conspicuous mark as retaining a quantity of the powder in it. Eyes keen and dark brown, the left one having a small scale about the middle of the ball, visible only on close inspection. Hair black, short, and curly, with black whiskers turned back to his ear. General aspect distant and very suspicious.
MACPHERSON is well proportioned and neatly though not strongly built, and having been in the army he retains the Military air in walking. When he absconded he wore a light blue short coat, whitish moleskin trousers, with white corduroy waistcoat, grey stockings, and strong shoes shod with iron on the toes and heels, the shod on the toes turned up in the front, no neck cloth, wore highland Kilmarnock bonnet; he is followed by a black colly dog called Laddie, slenderly made, with brown mouth, eyes, ears, and feet.

STRATHCARRON - CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER AGAINST DAY
James Day, cottar, who on the 15th June deforced a sheriff officer at Gledfield, Strathcarron, has been served with an indictment charging him with attempting to murder. The prisoner, who will be tried at the High Court at Inverness on Saturday, is alleged to have set fire to a train of gunpowder, connecting with a glass bottle containing gunpowder, which he had previously laid under the ground near the door of his house, while Murdoch Kerr, sheriff officer, Tain, and two concurrents were endeavouring to force an entry for the purpose of ejecting him and did thus attempt to murder or injure the three men. Day, who is an Irishman, was convicted in 1886 of having violently deforced a sheriff officer, a hatchet being then the implement with which he threatened the officer.
