Skye & Lochalsh Archive Centre

The Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre, part of the Highland Council Archive Service, is based at the Elgin Hostel, Portree, Isle of Skye. The archive centre replaced Dualchas Heritage Service in December 2009 and incorporates the Dualchas collections along with new material. The collections include maps, photographs, estate, family and business papers, local authority records, prints and drawings, artefacts and an extensive local history library.

Collections can be consulted free of charge at the centre where staff are on hand to assist with enquiries. Enquiries can also be made by telephone, email or in writing, although more detailed research may incur a search fee.

Am Baile was established with initial funding from the New Opportunities Fund and is now funded by The Highland Council and managed as part of Highland Libraries.
