A Wrong Turn
On Saturday morning, the 17th of July 2009, a family was packing their car with luggage. They were travelling to Scotland for the summer holidays. The family had two children, Courtney and Bob. Courtney was thirteen with long brown hair and bright blue eyes. Bob was seven and loved bugs and snails. He had black hair and green eyes. Their Mum and Dad were both tall and about thirty.
Mum was telling Bob off for bringing slugs in the car while Dad was making sure the car tyres weren't flat. Finally everyone was in the car and they were off. Bob was moaning that he needed the toilet and Courtney was screaming because Bob had let his snails roam around the car.
At last they stopped for a bit. Courtney and Bob decided that they would go for a walk so they set off with a map their Dad had given them. He told them which turns to take. He said to them that it would lead them to a stone which was famous all over Scotland.
Bob was running ahead of Courtney. Bob came to a fork in the path and ran down the one to his left.
"Bob, that's the wrong turning", called Courtney.
"But Courtney I really want to go down this path", Bob protested.
"Ok", said Courtney.
Bob was off as fast as he could go with Courtney running after him. Suddenly a hole opened in the ground and Bob and Courtney tumbled down, down, down.
Courtney found herself on top of her brother. When she sat up she realised they had landed on a small beach. The beach was full of sea animals and lots of mermaids. Courtney and Bob were mesmerised.
"I told you mermaids were real", Bob told Courtney.
"Wow!" said Courtney, thinking she was dreaming.
A dolphin came up with lots of fish following her.
"You are here because you are special", the dolphin explained. "We want you to help us look after the sea and all the sea creatures. These will help us communicate."
She handed Courtney a necklace and Bob a badge. She told them they would move and tell them when she needed them.
"Your tasks will include litter picking and healing hurt sea animals", she informed them.
Suddenly they were whizzed away and landed with a bump near their car. They knew and always would know it was true because Courtney had her necklace and Bob had his badge.
