Trotternish

Situated on a promontory overlooking Luib Score in the north of the Trotternish peninsula on Skye, Duntulm was originally the site of an Iron Age Fort. It changed hands several times, between the MacLeods and MacDonalds, eventually becoming a MacDonald stronghold around 1539. It had an impressive and almost impregnable situation, with sea cliffs on three sides, but by the 1730s the castle was a source of stone for the MacDonald's new house at Monkstadt, and it fell into a dangerous state of disrepair, which has only recently been stabilized
