An Inverness theatre playbill, for Wednesday 22 June 1842. The evening commenced with the national drama 'Lochinvar!' and was followed by the interlude 'The Cleikum Inn'. The evening concluded with the pastoral 'Gentle Shepherd'. The character of 'Baldy (that drives the car)' was played by Mr Mackay.
The evening performance commenced at 7:30pm and seat prices ranged from one shilling in the gallery to three shillings in the boxes. The Latin words 'Vivant Regina Et Princeps', ('Long Live the Queen and Prince') are printed at the bottom of the playbill. This referred to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
The first theatre in Inverness is said to have dated from 1805 and was situated on what was once called Theatre Lane, near Inglis Street
